Side-Quests For Final Fantasy VII
Ultimate Weapon Although most people have heard of Ruby and Emerald Weapon fewer have heard of Ultimate Weapon. During Disc 3 this monster will appear in one of 4 possible places: Nibelheim, Midgar, Mideel, and Cosmo Canyon. If you find it, ram it with the highwind to initiate the fight. You'll battle it for a while and then it will fly away to another location. Repeat the process until you fight it at Cosmo Canyon. If you've accumulated enough damage from the previous fights, Ultimate weapon will fall to it's death creating a large crater and an entrance into a new forest... Ruby Weapon Ruby Weapon appears once Ultimate Weapon has been destroyed. It pops it's head out of the sand near Gold Saucer. Ram it with the highwind to get it to fully expose itself and initiate the fight. Ruby Weapon I've found that the most popular strategy works best: Have each of your characters equipped with this materia combo: <Final Attack - Revive> but have one equipped with <Final Attack - Phoenix Summon> This will ensure that when the character dies they will revive either themselves or another member of the team or in the case of the phoenix summon, everyone. A good way to defeat Ruby Weapon is to have everyone equipped with the Mime materia and one or two people equipped with both KOTR (Knights Of The Round) and W-summon. Once in battle have someone with W-summon summon KOTR 2 times in a row and then have everyone else mime each other infinitely. BE SURE NOT TO HAVE ANYONE ELSE DO ANYTHING BUT MIME OR IT WILL MESS UP THE CHAIN EFFECT Just keep miming and reviving yourselves with final attack until the mighty creature finally falls. For defeating Ruby Weapon you get the Desert Rose Which can be traded for quite a prize in Kalm (see Side-Quest section) and some pretty decent AP and EXP. Emerald Weapon The same strategy used against Ruby Weapon will also work against Emerald Weapon. Although before you battle it it is wise to first collect the Underwater Materia (see Kalm Traveler). For defeating it you'll receive the Earth Harp which can be traded to the Kalm Traveler, and a hefty amount of EXP and AP. Finding Yuffie To get Yuffie there are a series of events that you must successfully complete. If you don't know what you're doing it can be quite annoying. Search the Forests near Gongaga until you run into a girl. Defeat her and you will find yourself on a screen with her lying in the center of it. WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU SAY YOU MAY REGRET IT If you want to figure it out for yourself, stop reading now. If you want to know exactly what to say keep reading. DO NOT use the save point or she will run away with your Gil. Here is how the conversation should go: Yuffie: "You spikey-headed jerk! One more time, let's go one more time!" Answer: "Not interested." Yuffie: "You're pretty scared of me huh?" Answer: "...petrified" Yuffie: "I'm gonna leave! REALLY!" Answer: "Wait a Second!" Yuffie: "You want me to go with you?" Answer: "...That's right." Yuffie: "All right! I'll go with you!" Answer: "....Let's hurry on." At this point she gets a little upset and yells after you that she hasn't even told you her name. After you leave the screen you'll be prompted to give her a name. Finding Vincent In the Shin-Ra Mansion, there is a safe near the room that goes into the basement. The combo for the lock is: Right-36, Left-10, Right-59, Right-97 You can't go over the number or you'll have to start over again. When you get the combo right, the safe will pop open and gee whadya know! Out pops a boss!! Defeat him and as well as the basement key, you'll also receive the Odin Summon Materia. Head down into the basement, but don't go all the way to the library. Instead go to the right, through the previously locked door. Investigate the center coffin, and when Vincent pops out to say hi, tell him about sephiroth and he'll go back to sleep. Pester him again and again until he says let me sleep. Then head back towards the entrance and before you reach the spiral staircase, Vincent will come flying up and says that he wants to join your party. Key To Midgar During the part of the game where you have to get back into midgar to stop hojo from destroying Midgar, it is possible to get in without parachuting. Park the Highwind away from midgar, and then walk towards it. Talk to the guy near gate #7, and he'll say that he lost a key. He says he thinks he dropped it at an excavation site. Well the only excavation site I know of is Bone Village. Head to bone village and tell the guy that you're looking for "Normal Treasure".
